Cambridge team rock in Grimsby!

CAMBRIDGE House pupils scooped no less than four major awards when they competed at the UK finals of 'Rock Challenge' in Grimsby last week.

The local school had already won the Northern Ireland heat of the inovative arts competition with a superb performance of their dance-drama ‘Obsession’ and they did themselves proud with an equally impressive showing at Grimsby Auditorium last Thursday evening.

‘Obsession’ reflects on fame, celebrities, money, body image and asks what happens when image becomes more important than reality and human honesty.

A ‘tour’ team of students, staff and parents packed on to two coaches for the journey while the stage set and equipment was driven to the auditorium in advance by McBurney Transport.

A very small number of students sat GCSE examinations on Thursday and Friday morning. There were study and revision slots timetabled into the day and sincere thanks go to the Principal, Examinations Officer and invigilators of The Lindsey School, Grimsby who, with permission from CCEA, arranged for our students to complete their papers.

The venue in Grimsby was spacious and allowed all schools to interact, make lots of new friends and really enjoy the uniqueness of the Rock Challenge experience.

The cast, crew, staff and parents spent the day in rehearsals at the Auditorium and the evening’s Final was a spectacular experience.

The standard was incredibly high as expected and the team were delighted to pick up 4 major Awards: Healthy Lifestyle, Positive Inclusion, Cultural and Academic Educational Achievement and Hairstyle Award.

“These are very appropriate awards given our school’s family, academic and inclusive ethos. Our cast and crew performed to the highest standard and really gave full commitment and energy to their presentation. The costumes, lighting, choreography, dance routines, visual interpretation, stage set and creativity were imaginative and impressive.

“Our congratulations go to The Archbishop Sentamu Academy, Hull who were overall winners with ‘Equilibrium’ which was a very moving and powerful presentation of the rat race that modern life has become and the importance of ensuring a work/life balance. The whole experience was outstanding.

“The atmosphere in the Auditorium was electric and all schools performed to a packed hall. The audience were appreciative of the tremendous efforts and incredible showcase of talent,” said Mrs. Eileen Lisk, who multi-tasked capably as keeper of the school’s rock challenge mascot, a furry teddy named, inevitably, ‘Grimsby’.
