Can you ‘knit’ a pencil case?

THE ‘knitting group’ that meets at the Salvation Army shop every Thursday night are noted for their nimble-fingered skill and generous hearts.

At the moment, the group are knitting pencil cases in support of the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal in addition to other mission projects in the Philippines and Uganda.

If, however, they are to support these very worthwhile projects, the knitting group need your help.

Their leader, Doreen Armstrong says: “We are looking for anyone who can knit a pencil case, provide wool or any of the items needed to fill them such as pens, pencils, rubbers or sharpeners.”

If, you can’t join the group on Thursday night, don’t worry, simply call in at the Salvation Army Shop on Broughshane Street and Doreen will give you a knitting pattern to follow from the comfort of your own armchair.

Even if you could manage to knit one pencil case between now and October, you would be letting a little child in Africa, Europe or south east Asia know that they are cared for this Christmas
