Cannabis for 'medical condition'

A Ballymena man who admitted possessing cannabis has been given a 12 months' conditional discharge.

He was Kieran Anthony McKeown, (31), of Greenview, in the town.

Last Thursday’s sitting in Antrim of Ballymena Magistrate’s Court heard that McKeown had spent a number of recent months in hospital for a medical condition.

A solicitor for McKeown said his client had got cannabis as a substitute for medication.

Sentencing McKeown, District Judge, Desmond Perry, who also ordered the destruction of the seized cannabis, told him: “You should be taking medication supplied by a medical practitioner and not dabbling in drugs”.
