Mid and East Antrim Council have agreed to spend up to £150,000 on such a space in Cargan Village.

The Independent Councillor said: “The finance has been identified and Officers are now working up a robust business case. This morning myself and community representatives met with Council’s Director of Organisation, Development and Community Planning and her Head of Service, to discuss our requirements.

“Amongst some of the needs discussed were, a meeting point, a coffee shop, a recreation area for our older citizens, a youth club, a men’s shed and office accommodation.

“The Officers are hoping to present their report to Council’s Community Planning Committee on Tuesday November 8th, therefore I’d welcome community feedback as soon as possible.

“This is one of several community projects identified by Council’s Chief Executive, Senior Officers and Ballymena Councillors recently. Another project agreed, subject to business case, is a complete refurbishment of Dunfane Pavilion, at an estimated cost of £300,000. I

“ have been involved in a door to door survey of the Dunfane and Herbison areas, where upgrading local recreational facilities was a huge issue. Having lobbied Council, work has already been completed on some cosmetic improvements to the changing rooms and the playing field is currently undergoing drainage works and resurfacing.

“I am confident that the communities whose areas will benefit from this announcement, will welcome the news.”
