Chance to explore Lanyon’s Ballymena legacy by bus

You’ll have the chance to find out exactly what and where that legacy lies in the borough courtesy of Mid Antrim Museum’s community engagement project ‘Ways of Seeing, A Sense of Place’.

For just £5 you can take a Bus Tour of The Architectural Heritage of Charles Lanyon in Ballymena and the price includes cream tea at one of his stunning local pieces of design heritage - The Adair Arms.

Well known for his architecture in Belfast including Queens and Custom House, Sir Charles Lanyon also worked and resided in Mid-Antrim, yet his work in Ballymena is less well known.

Were you aware, for instance, that he was responsible for designing such beautiful Ballymena buildings as the Adair Arms, Ballymena Courthouse, West Presbyterian Church, Craigs Parish Church and Schoolhouse, and Kintullagh House which now lies within grounds of St, Louis Grammar School?

Those sites will be included in the forthcoming bus tour, providing those aboard with the unique opportunity to explore such outstanding work by Sir Charles Lanyon in the local area.

It will depart from The Braid at 10am on Saturday, June 6, and tickets, priced £5, are available from at The Braid TIC. A free exhibition of Lanyon’s architectural heritage will also open at the Museum within The Braid on May 1 and run until June 27.
