Ballymena is supporting Community Relations Week 2014 and its theme ‘Building a United Community’ with events planned as part of some 170 happening across Northern Ireland from 16 to 22 June.

Ballymena Inter Ethnic Forum are working with Beyond Skin and the World of Music Arts and Dance International Arts Festival (WOMAD) bringing young people together in workshops to prepare to perform in a multi cultural showcase event on Saturday June 21 at Ballymena North Business and Recreation Centre from 7pm to 9pm.

Ballymena Borough Council and Ballymena Learning Together have organised a Youth Mock Council Meeting at the Braid on Monday June 23. Pupils from ten post primary schools will examine the role of civic leadership and the positive impact it can have on Ballymena.

Events in Ballymena also include workshops and exhibitions in the Creative Young Citizen’s Programme organised by The Braid Arts Centre in partnership with Ballymena Learning Together. These take place at The Braid, from June 5 to June 26.

Jacqueline Irwin, CRC’s Chief Executive, says: “Building a united community is as urgent now as it was when the peace agreement was signed in 1998. We have plenty of examples of our capacity to slip back into animosity and old ways of thinking. There is no room for complacency.”

A full listing of Community Relations Week events can be found at and programmes can be obtained from local libraries.
