Approval has been given for the development at the landmark site on the A26, a road which is set to be transformed into a dual-carriageway in the years ahead.

Thousands of motorists travel the route each day and it is believed the developers hope the new facility will be a useful addition to the commercial infrastructure.

It is understood the developers believe a substantially-sized petrol filling station/shop complex and a place to drive in and buy hot food will be popular.

It is understood that with planning permission in place the developers want to get the building work underway perhaps before the end of the year with an opening as soon as possible in the New Year.

The developers are Mr and Mrs Don Logan who own the Logan’s Fashions complex and the location of the new scheme is close to the existing premises. The planning approval is for a ‘Service Area including Fast Food Restaurant, Picnic Area, Petrol Filling Station and Associated Shop’.

It is believed a bid will be made to bring a prominent fast-food provider to the Logan’s site and McDonald’s or KFC are understood to be possibilities but nothing has to be agreed.
