Conquerors’ concert at Braid Arts Centre

Ballymena Young Conquerors Flute Band will be hosting its seventh annual concert on Thursday, April 23 in the Braid Arts Centre Ballymena.

The event will commence at 7.30 pm, and tickets for the concert are currently available from band members and the Braid box office at a cost of £10 each.

Making his first appearance at the concert will be recently appointed musical director Kevin Duffy, who brings to the band a wealth of experience from his earlier days in brass and military bands, including a stint with the famous Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and as bandmaster with the Royal Irish Regiment.

Kevin has organised the band’s concert programme as well as providing several new arrangements.

Accompanist for the evening will be a member of the band’s percussion section, Leah Collyer-Greer.

Following relocation from South London in 2013, Leah now works with the Belfast Philarmonic “Phils Kids” choir and as a tutor with the Queen’s University Junior Academy of Music.

Leah will be accompanying another band member, piccolo player Uel Faulkner, who will be performimg on the saxophone along with Brian McMaster.

Uel is a former military bandsman who now works as a woodwind tutor for the Southern Region Education Authority.

Guest vocal soloist for the evening will be Lucy Collyer- Greer ( Leah’s daughter).

Lucy won two classes at this year’s Ballymena Musical Festival and received the award for best local soloist.

A vital part of any successful concert is the compere, and once again the band has the services of the best in the business, Jackie Fullerton MBE.
