Could you name Council?

Mid & East Antrim councillors have urged their Chief Executive Anne Donaghy to move on as quickly as possible on the process of naming the new Super Council.

They did so at their recent August monthly meeting on the proposal of Cr John Carson, seconded by Cr Audrey Wales who told the gathering: “We need this settled”.

While the name ‘Mid & East Antrim’ was identified by the Local Government Boundaries Commissioner for the new authority, Council has the ability to change the name by application to the Department.

While three proposals have so far been received - Mid & East Antrim, Antrim Coast and Castle Borough Council, councillors were agreed that officers should explore options for an engagement process with the public in a bid to have a decision by November/December on the final name.

Mrs Donaghy told members that one way of doing this could be to seek public feedback through the local press.
