These are just a few of the requirements for the competitors taking part in the Run Mucker Run Challenge on September 24, to raise vital funds Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

‘Run Mucker Run’ is part of a growing trend for obstacle course racing across the country.

The local event this September will be the fourth of its kind to be organised by Run Mucker Run on Kirk Road on the outskirts of Ballymoney and follows hot on the heels of the last one in April which saw over 600 ‘muckers’ take part.

The coming event is open to anyone over the age of 18 and involves a lap or two of a specially designed 5K course, complete with around 30 manmade and natural obstacles.

Melvin Dewart the event organiser says: “It will be a gruelling test of strength, stamina and mental determination, the idea is to encourage team-work and camaraderie among participants.

“We have chosen Cancer Focus Northern Ireland as our nominated charity this year as it is a local charity and cancer has affected every family in some way or another.”

Cancer Focus NI Challenge Events Manager, Emma McArdle, said: “We are delighted to be the beneficiaries of Run Mucker Run again in September 2016, it will be an exciting event and we hope to raise lots of funds from participants taking part in this difficult but fun challenge.”

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland is a local cancer charity that provides a wide range of services for Northern Ireland cancer patients and their families. These include counselling and family support, bra and swimwear fitting for mastectomy patients, art therapy, Beauty for Life, stop smoking services and Keeping Well vans providing community health checks and advice.

The charity also funds major research and carries out cancer prevention schemes in workplaces, schools and at community venues.
