Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Thomas Hogg, said: “The defibrillator scheme is a fantastic opportunity for sports clubs and community groups to apply for this life saving device.

“We are delighted to work in partnership with Antrim Lions Club, who have committed to fund 50% of the cost of the defibrillator, with council funding 25%. I would encourage any club or group who do not have access to a defibrillator to apply now.”

John Mooney, President of Antrim Lions Club, added: “This initiative to fund life-saving defibrillators is another example of how we are committed to improving the lives of our local community.

“There are around 1,400 cardiac arrests occurring each year in Northern Ireland outside of hospitals so it is vital that communities have access to these life-saving devices.”

Applicants can apply online by logging onto www.antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/residents/Grants-Funding

Closing date for applications under the defibrillator scheme is Thursday, March 31.
