Councillor Roderick Swann, Chairperson of the council’s Planning Committee, said: “Given our new role as decision-makers and place shapers, we are committed to consulting widely with residents, businesses, local groups and organisations about our new planning responsibilities.

“With the bulk of planning powers now in the control of the Council, this is bringing decision-making closer to local people.”

A series of community engagement drop-in sessions are taking place during September to gain feedback on the Council’s draft proposals for involving the community.

Sessions are taking place at Crumlin Leisure Centre on September 17, Antrim Civic Centre, September 23 and Randalstown Arches, September 29, from 4pm to 8pm.

Councillor Swann added: “The Council’s Planning section has prepared a Draft Statement of Community Involvement which sets out how we propose to engage with the community.

“We believe that engagement is an essential part of the planning process both for today and to assist in directing our visions for the future of the Borough.
