Council writes to Ryder Cup trio

LETTERS of congratulation are winging their way to the three 'local' golfers involved in the winning European Ryder Cup team.

The proposal to send the correspondence to team players Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell and team vice-captain Darren Clarke came from Cllr Tommy Nicholl at last Monday night’s October meeting of Ballymena Borough Council.

He said: “I’m sure we are all filled with pride tonight at the way three of our own people from this nation of Northern Ireland did themselves proud at the Celtic Manor in the Ryder Cup, especially Graeme McDowell who comes from Portrush and who sunk the winning putt,” said Cllr Nicholl who added that Graeme McDowell’s uncle played in Cullybackey Pipe Band for many years.
