‘Wheelie bin’ case: sentencing adjourned until new year

Two men and a woman will be sentenced in the new year for their roles in an incident in which a man was found naked and badly beaten in a wheelie bin in a park in Ballymena.

Teri Lau (27), of Dunclug Park, and David Roddy Patterson (27), of Glendun Drive, had previously pleaded guilty to charges of falsely imprisoning Adam Robinson on a date between September 1-4 last year, and assaulting him, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

Paula Wilson (21), had previously admitted aiding and abetting the false imprisonment of Mr Robinson.

The trio were due to be sentenced this morning (Monday) but a prosecution barrister told Antrim Crown Court that probation reports on Lau and Patterson had only been received this morning.

He applied for an adjournment so that both defendants could be “assessed and examined” by medical experts prior to sentencing.

Judge Gordon Kerr adjourned the case until February 2, at Laganside Court, when a new date for sentencing will be fixed.

“When probation reports are made available on the morning of the plea, it means there is always the chance that this unfortunate occurrence will happen,” the judge added.
