Cullybackey WI all set for the new ‘season’

CULLYBACKEY Women’s Institute’s new programme started with a well attended agm.

Ruth Orr welcomed everyone especially the Chairperson for the evening Barbara Holmes and the tellers, Mary Derby and Marian Thompson.

Eleanor McIlroy, secretary read the minutes of the 2010 AGM and a comprehensive Annual report, which detailed an interesting year with subjects as varied as bee keeping, gardening, poetry and music.

A new member Michele Glover was welcomed and Ruth Orr emphasised that if anyone had friends or family members who would be interested in joining the institute to bring them along to a meeting, to see what membership of the WI can offer.

The monthly competition winners were 1st Elizabeth McIlroy, 2nd Eleanor McIlroy and 3rd Anne McElfatrick.

The Institute members had many successes during the year in various competitions including Ballymena show and on a family level too there have been highlights with the birth of grandchildren and important wedding anniversaries.

The birthday girls - July, Joan McKibben. August, Joan Mercer and September, Hazel Kernohan were given gifts.

The new committee members were announced as Betty Kyle, Iris Rodgers, Anna May Johnston, Merle Campbell, Eleanor McIlroy, Joan Stevenson, Jean Simpson, Ethel Kyle, Ann Hill, Helen Craig, Hazel Kernohan Lily Eaton, Jennifer Calderwood, and Margaret McKane. Eleanor McIlroy was warmly welcomed as the new President.
