SF Councillor Paul Maguire has called on Transport NI for a pedestrian crossing adjacent to the new Ballymena Health & Care Centre.
He told The Times: “Transport NI agreed to arrange for a pedestrian survey to be completed to ascertain the level of need. Disappointingly and rather bizarrely, they said they couldn’t anticipate an increase in pedestrian movements as policy dictates that they must use existing volumes. They did agree to proceed with the survey to allow them to get a picture of the current situation and to monitor any increases over the coming months.
“Whilst Transport NI say they will continue to monitor the site with a view to providing a formal crossing if the number of pedestrians increase, the reality is that on day one after the centre opens, pedestrian volumes will have increased and there will still be no pelican,” he said.
