Drink drive ban for Clough man

CLOUGH man has been banned from driving for 12 months for drink-driving.

Dermot Hughes (33), of Limavallaghan Road, was also fined 125 at Ballymena Magistrates Court after admitting charge of driving with excess alcohol consumed.

The court was told that Hughes came to police notice at Knockan Road on September 26, after having been observed leaving the car park of licensed premises in Martinstown.

He provided a breath specimen with a concentration of 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35/100.

Solicitor Liam McKendry said Hughes had been making the two-and-a-half mile journey from the pub to his home when he was stopped.

The mandatory disqualification will have a “severe effect” upon Hughes’ occupation as a farmer, the solicitor added.

Sentencing Hughes, District Judge Des Perry certified the defendant as a suitable candidate to undertake a probation-led drink-driving course which will see his period of disqualification cut by three months.
