Dunclug principal praises performances

THE Principal of Dunclug College, Mrs. Ruth Wilson, has praised pupils, parents and staff for their sterling efforts which earned very creditable results in GCSE examinations.

Almost two-thirds of the Year 12 group at Dunclug College were entered for seven, eight or nine GCSE subjects and 66% achieved 5 or more subjects at grades A* - C and 91% achieved 4 or more grades A* - C. Of the total number of students entered, 88% achieved 5 or more subjects at grades A – E and 93% 4 or more grades A – E while 98% of pupils achieved 5 grades A – G. This sustains the standard of recent years. The average points score per student increased by 3%.

Examples of the highest achieving pupils, each sitting 8 or 9 subjects, were: Gavin Armstrong, Nicole Gibson, Lauren Nugent, Adam Service, Jordan Anderson, Stephanie McDowell, Ruth Gregg and Stephanie Ross. Eleven pupils who sat the Occupational Studies Qualification linked to the NRC achieved the top Level 5 at Double Award (equivalent to GCSE Grade B), and eleven achieved Level 4 at Double Award (equivalent to GCSE Grade D).

Examples of subjects in which there was particular success at GCSE Grades A* - C, included: English Literature 100%; Horticulture 100%; Religious Studies 100%; Hospitality & Catering 92 %; Business & Communication Systems 91%; Media, Film & TV Studies 91%; Design & Technology 88%; Construction 88%; Information Technology 80%; Home Economics 75%; Additional Science, 75%; Single Award Science 74%; Drama 73%; Sports Studies 68%; Motor Vehicle Studies 67%; Child Development 67%.

Many Year 12 pupils from the College are planning to return to school to follow 6th Form courses and applications are also invited from pupils from other schools who are seeking access to the combinations of courses on offer and who meet the Admissions Criteria.

The principal congratulated all the students who had worked so hard, the parents who gave such support to their children and the school, and the teaching staff who willingly gave of extra time to benefit their pupils. The school is continuing to develop its Performance Enhancement Programme to enable the young people to achieve their very best.
