Dunfane road safety concerns

NORTH Antrim SF MLA Daithí McKay has called on Roads Service to provide traffic calming measures in the Dunfane area of Ballymena in response to residents’ concerns over pedestrian safety.

Mr McKay revealed that a petition with nearly 200 signatures had been completed by residents in Dunfane, prompting him to seek a site meeting with Roads Service to discuss local fears.

He said: “There are well over 100 houses in the Dunfane area and there are a large number of young families that reside here with young children. That being the case it is of particular concern the speed of some who drive through the estate and also a number of corners in the road that clearly reduce the reaction time of drivers because of the reduced sightlines.

“Credit must go to a number of parents in the area who have carried out a petition and garnered nearly 200 signatures from residents who want to see speed ramps installed to help address the speeding problem and to ensure that their children are as safe as possible in the estate.

“I have organised a site meeting in the estate with Roads Service and will be urging them to ensure that effective traffic calming is put in place here to slow down drivers and that should include the ramps that residents have requested.”
