Dunloy Accordion Band concert

Also with the 2013 marching season still a few months away, many of us are suffering from withdrawal symptoms, missing our rich culture of bands and parades.

Well one local band has come up with the ideal solution as the members of Dunloy Accordion band will be hosting their annual band concert in the Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena on Friday, January 25 beginning at 8pm.

The band has hosted this concert for the last several years and the event has become a firm fixture in the banding calendar because of the quality of the musical outfits on show for the public.

This year proves to be no different as some of the province’s premiere ensembles have been assembled to perform a wide variety of music that will suit every ear.

The concert will open with a performance from the host band themselves playing a mix of the popular marches they perform at the many annual parades in which they participate.

Next on stage will be popular North Antrim Ulster Scots group Skullduggery.

Comprising a mix of keyboards, guitars, fiddle, drums and accordion, the group are one of the most popular of their type and promise to deliver a toe-tapping mix of traditional, folk, Ulster Scots and pop music.

After a short interval, local part-music flute band Castlegore Amateur Flute band will take to the stage.

Newcomers to the concert, they are sure to deliver a program of top class, top quality music that promises to enthral every music enthusiast.

Keeping with the flute music but with a change to the melody style of the genre, Cookstown Sons of William Flute band will be the last of the guest artistes to take the stage.

This band are regarded by many as one of the top Melody Flute band ensemble in the province and are renowned for the quality of the sound and the music they produce.

The concert will finish this year with a short performance from the host band’s concert group who will play a short selection of pieces from their new concert program.

The concert will be compered this year by Jackie Fullerton, a man whose effortless style with an audience is a joy to behold.
