Sunday, March 20, saw hundreds of motorcyclists gather at Pennybridge for the 23rd annual run through the Glens to the North Antrim Coast which was organised by David McGuckin of Ballymena Rider Training.

They all arrived with Easter Eggs for donation to local children’s charities and the entry fee of £5 very quickly rolled to an impressive £2200 total on the day, every penny of which goes to Marie Curie Cancer Care NI.

The procession made quite a spectacle as it filtered through Carnalbanagh past Slemish and down to the Antrim coastline with as many spectators lining garden walls and fences along the way to wish the participants well.

David McGuckin said: “After 23 years the support we get, regardless of the weather, never fails to impress me. Many motorcyclists consider this to be the opening run of the season and we welcome everyone from seasoned club bikers to learner legal riders. In fact we were particularly encouraged at the wide array of bikers taking part this year and with the positive feedback on the day and since. Marie Curie provide care and support for people living with a terminal illness and last year alone supported over 40,000 people across the UK. I’m sure anyone will agree that it’s a very worthwhile charity”

Co-organisers have been busy distributing Easter Eggs to local children’s charities, schools and clubs.

Overwhelmed with donations this year organisers filled two cars with chocolate eggs on Sunday.

“The eggs are divided to various charities for example this year we donated to Castle Tower School, Womans Aid, Barnado’s and Ulster Barbarian wheelchair rugby.”
