St Joseph’s Nursery School in Antrim has received a £4,000 for a new environmental project.
The school has received the funding from the Department of the Environment’s Challenge Fund.
The funding allocated to the school will be used for a learning garden allotment project.
The project will see the creation of an allotment area which will be accessible to the whole community.
This will be utilised to educate pupils on the ‘grow your own’ theme, and enhance environmental education.
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan said: “It is fantastic to see the passion that our young people have in the protection and enhancement of the environment.
“I pledged that the 5p levy on carrier bags would be ploughed back into the environment. The Challenge Fund is one way of doing that.”
