Police are investigating a suspected hate crime in the St Patrick’s Terrace area of Ballymena.

Inspector Alison Ferguson said: “It was reported that youths were throwing eggs and stones at a house in the area. The incidents have been ongoing and were reported to police on Thursday, February 12.

“Initial investigations indicate that the crime is hate motivated, based on the race of the homeowner. Hate crime in unacceptable and we will make arrests where we can, even if young people are involved.”

The Inspector added: “I would also encourage anyone with influence in their communities, including parents, to ensure that local young people understand that their actions have consequences. Poor choices may result in a criminal conviction down the line, severely impacting on future life choices.”

She appealed for anyone with information to contact Ballymena PSNI on the non-emergency number 101.
