What a load of rubbish?6000 tonnes collected

Ballymena Borough Council is celebrating the first anniversary of its state-of-the-art, refurbished Household Recycling Centre.

During the past 12 months, there have been over  156,000 visitors to the site, with an average of 500 visitors per day. Over 6,000 tonnes of material was collected, of which 72% was recycled.

The success of the facility at Waveney Road has been attributed to the fact it is much more user friendly and accessible.

Donna Carey, Waste Manager for Ballymena Borough Council, says the Household Recycling Centre has directly improved recycling rates in the borough, saving rate payers money and helping the environment.

Cllr Beth Adger, Chairperson of the Regulatory and Operational Services Committee, adds:

“The Household Recycling Centre is a very important service for the ratepayers of Ballymena. There has been considerable investment in resources to deliver this state-of-the-art facility which my committee values and hopes to build upon. I would like to thank everyone who has used the facility and encourage all residents to recycle their waste either via the domestic collections and/or at the Household Recycling Centre.”
