Extra car park space for town at Christmas

ROADS Service will be providing additional parking capacity in Ballymena on the four Saturdays before Christmas.

Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy made the announcement on Friday, stating: “Roads Service has, over the past number of years, supplemented the parking in Ballymena in the run-up to Christmas. Even with some 2,000 parking spaces operated by Roads Service and a number of other privately operated car parks, the additional parking on the four Saturdays before Christmas provides useful additional capacity at the busiest time of the year when the cars parks are operating at or near capacity.”

The scheme has been operating for a number of years and provides up to 100 additional spaces, which can be extended to over 200 should the need arise.

Mr Kennedy said: “The Northern Regional College has, once again, kindly granted use of their car park, which is accessed off Granville Drive, on Saturdays, December 1, 8, 15 and 22.

“The car park will be free and supervised and will be open from 10am until 5pm on these four Saturdays and the additional capacity will help support local businesses at this very busy trading period and will reduce queuing and congestion at some of the busier car parks.

Temporary signage will be erected to direct drivers to the car park.
