Florence’S long service to DofE recognised

FLORENCE Bones from Glenarm has been presented with a Long Service Certificate by HRH The Earl of Wessex at a special event in Hillsborough Castle.

For the last 28 years, Florence has been a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Leader in Craigy Hill Presbyterian Girls’ Brigade Larne and an Expedition Assessor. She has worked with girls on all aspects of the DofE programme helping them to achieve an Award.

Karen Carson, Volunteer DofE Manager for the Girls’ Brigade said: “We are indebted to Florence for her extremely dedicated service and commitment over many years. I’m absolutely delighted that she has been recognised in this way. Florence has ensured that hundreds of young women in GB have been able to do their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award by her volunteering.”

DofE NI Director Kate Thompson said: “We were delighted that HRH The Earl of Wessex agreed to present Florence with her Long Service Certificate to recognise her service and commitment. Without volunteers, such as Florence, our programme could quite simply not operate and we, and the young people she has supported, owe her a huge debt.”
