Former Ballymena cop appointed Acting Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice

A LEADING police officer in Ballymena at the time of ‘Harryville Protest’ has been appointed as Acting Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice for Northern Ireland.

Justice Minister David Ford has appointed Brendan McGuigan, who replaces Dr Michael Maguire who resigned to take up the post of Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland.

Mr McGuigan is currently Deputy Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice and will fill the post of Chief Inspector in an acting capacity pending the completion of the public appointment process to find a successor to Dr Maguire.

David Ford said: “I am pleased that Mr McGuigan has agreed to undertake the role of Chief Inspector until the public appointments process is concluded to find a replacement for Dr Maguire. Mr McGuigan will bring continuity and a wealth of knowledge to the post.”

Thanking Dr Maguire for his contribution, David Ford said: “I would also like to extend my best wishes to Michael in his new position as Police Ombudsman and wish to thank him for his leadership and expertise shown during his time as Chief inspector.”

Brendan McGuigan holds no other public appointments.
