‘FROG’, or ‘Fun Run Of the Glens’ began in 2007, managed and stewarded by Glenravel man Paul McToal, and has raised nearly £77, 000 for local cancer charities to date.

The event was a real challenge for both amateur and seasoned cyclists who undertook their chosen route from options provided :- 25, 50, 75 or 100miles across the Glens.

“The cycle took place on an absolutely beautiful June day and the buzz at the Glenravel Sports and Community centre was inspiring,” said Paul. “Many local clubs were represented (Ballycastle, Bann Valley, Cushendall, Dunloy and the ever supportive Michelin, to name a few).

“The riders had lunch at the community centre, which is one of the attractions of this event - where else would you get scones with jam and cream!. The centre pulled out all the stops and provided showers, changing facilities and a steam room, which was appreciated and used by quite a few.”

Suzi McILwain, Community Fundraiser, Cancer Focus, said: “We can’t thank Paul and his team of helpers enough for all the hard work they put into organising and promoting this event. This year’s event was a FROG fundraising record-breaker which is real testament to the enthusiasm and generosity of the organisers, the cyclists, and their friends and family who donated to this great cause.

“Cancer Focus is committed to tackling cancer by supporting cancer research, providing services, free-of-charge, for cancer patients and their families and by educating people on how they can reduce their risk of the disease.”
