Glenariffe to be ‘glamping’ hub

A £1 million ‘high-end’ caravan and camping facility is to be built at Glenariff Forest Park - bringing a major tourism boost to the ‘Queen of the Glens’.

Agriculture Minister, Michelle O’Neill said the new facility, just 12 miles from Ballymena, will include provision for nine ‘glamping’ pods and the capacity for 36 caravans and campervans, will be open by this autumn.

Commenting on the project, Minister O’Neill said: “There is considerable interest in camping and caravan breaks so this very exciting project at Glenariff will certainly add a bit of glamour to the experience.

“It also helps provide welcome support for forest-based tourism and builds on the partnership developed between the Forest Service and Moyle District Council. We now look forward to cementing the relationship between my department and the new Causeway Coast and Glens District Council.”

She said: “The outgoing Council members showed great vision in recognising the scope for forests to contribute to tourism development, and advancing plans to allow improvements to take place.

“The commencement of these works at Glenariff is a milestone for the partners.”

DARD’s Forest Service is investing £4million to develop forest-based tourism in Northern Ireland.
