Help and advice for local flood victims

Help and advice is being provided by Ballymena Council to local residents throughout the borough whose homes were affected by flooding as a result of Sunday night’s torrential rain.

This includes the allocation of emergency payments and the collection and disposal of damaged household contents.

Operational services staff were deployed early on Monday morning to initiate a clean-up of all the areas affected which included the Toome Road, Queen Street and Wakehurst areas, as well as in and around Ballee, Ballykeel, Ballymoney Road, Ballyloughan, Broughshane and the Galgorm Road area.

A spokesperson said that the Environmental Health service team were carrying out inspection visits to affected properties providing advice and details of the Emergency Financial Assistance scheme where appropriate

Householders whose homes have been flooded due to the recent heavy rainfall are asked to contact Council directly to access the emergency payments scheme. There is £1,000 funding available for affected households which is aimed at ensuring households are made habitable as quickly as possible. - The numbers to phone are 02825 660 373 or 02825 660 376

Council staff will arrange for an urgent inspection of affected properties and eligible claims will be administered as quickly as possible.

In addition, Council can also offer a range of practical help and guidance, including collection and disposal of damaged household contents, the spokesperson said.
