Husband and wife plead guilty to motoring offences

A HUSBAND and wife have appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court on motoring offences.

Kim Picken (30), of Mount Street, was fined a total of 200 and had her licence endorsed with six penalty points after admitting charges of permitting her husband to drive without insurance and a licence, while William John Picken (43) was banned from driving for six months and fined a total of 300 after admitting driving without insurance or a licence.

The court was told that the pair came to police attention at Mount Street on August 28.

Solicitor Stewart Ballentine said that Mrs Picken was learning to drive, while her husband didn’t have a licence as he was awaiting a medical to ascertain whether or not he was fit to drive.

He said the car had been left at nearby Duke Street earlier that day as there was no parking space at Mount Street, but later that evening, the pair had decided to move the vehicle closer to their own home for safety.

Mrs Picken had been driving but lost confidence after stalling the car and Mr Picken instead moved the car a distance of around 400 yards around the corner, added Mr Ballentine.
