Jail for head shave four

Four people have been jailed for an incident in which a woman had her head dry-shaved as she lay unconscious.

Paul Balmer (42) of Crosshill View, Kells was sentenced to five years in prison. Nathan Telford (23) of Wilson Avenue, Ballymena was sentenced to 40 months. Alister Hamilton (23), of Drumtara, was sentenced to 36 months.

All three men were convicted of two charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one further charge of assault.

Paula Wilson (22), was sentenced to 32 months for aiding and abetting the offences.

Crown Court Judge Donna McColgan ordered half of each sentence to be served in jail and the other half on licence.

During sentencing Judge McColgan said the incident involved ‘the most appalling acts of degradation.’
