Janette is ‘First Lady’ on Show committee

THE top brass at Ballymena Show have just elected the First Lady on to their Executive committee as Young Farmers’ Club representative #

The move follows extensive discussions with the three.local YFCs, Ahoghill, Glarryford and Lisnamurrican, who will be exhibiting their enthusiasm for rural activities at the Show.

Local lass, Janette Stirling, has been involved with the Young Farmers movement for the last 17 years, since she joined Glarryford club and already volunteers at Ballymena show. Her membership and dedication to the YFC organisation has given her opportunities to take part in Exchange programmes throughout Europe and Canada where she had the privilege to participate in International events and learn of the problems faced by rural communities in the areas visited.

She also takes part in many of the various competitions run by the YFC such as Craft, Public Speaking, Drama and Stock Judging and says she’s delighted to accept the honorary position of YFC representative on the Committee.

The Showgrounds will be a hive of activity on Friday and Saturday, May 24 and 25.

Horse Jumping will get things underway once again on the Friday from 9.30am.

Other activities such as shearing competitions will commence at 5pm with Trade Stands, Craft and Poultry exhibitions open from 6pm. YFC Tractor Handling, Jeep Challenge and sporting competitions including Tug-of-War will feature on the Friday night and local community entertainment will ensure there will be lots of laughs.

Saturday will commence with pedigree livestock classes commencing from 9.30am with competitors vying for the prestige of being chosen Supreme Champion and the local YFCs will be organising ‘It’s a Knockout’.

There will also be the chance to win various prizes totalling £550 with a raffle being drawn at the YFC trade stand at 3pm and, once again, there will be plenty of craft competitions on offer – a full list of competitions is available online at www.ballymenashow.co.uk
