Kellswater RP look forward to anniversary meetings

THIS year sees the 250th anniversary of witness by members of Kellswater Reformed Presbyterian Church.

To mark this very special occasion, members of the present-day fellowship invite everyone to join them for a weekend of talks on the history of the Covenanters.

These will be held at the Kellswater church on the Grove Road in Kells, which was erected in 1806.

Respected Minister, Rev David Silversides from Loughbrickland Reformed Presbyterian Church will be the speaker on each occasion.

The meetings begin on Friday 26th February 8pm and the subject is; 'Richard Cameron: An Example of the Scottish Covenanters'. On the morning of Saturday, February 27, there will be two messages. The first of these is entitled, 'The Covenanters in Ireland', which will get underway at 10.30am. Followed by a look at the life of, 'Alexander Peden: A Covenanter in Scotland and Ireland'.

These will be closed with the launch of a new book on the life of Peden. There will also be opportunity to view display panels telling the story of the Covenanters, particularly in Ulster as well as a bookstall.

Rev. John Coates, who is Minister at Kellswater RP, looks forward to the event, saying: “There's no charge for these meetings. Our aim is simply to re-tell the story which is very much a part of the history of our own province. In order to inspire Christians to imitate men and woman who stood for Christ's authority, even unto death.”
