K&G McAtamney scoops top butcher award - another Ballymena success story

Highly acclaimed butchers, K&G McAtamney, Ballymena, has scooped the top prize at the Butcher Shop of the Year Awards 2013, held recently at the stylish Plaisterers’ Hall in London.

The esteemed awards recognise and reward top butchers for their excellence in all elements of butchery craft.

At the glittering gala event the thriving family-run business was presented with the Northern Ireland award for the second year running, before being crowned national Butcher Shop of the Year Award, beating off stiff competition from over 18 shortlisted entrants from across the UK.

K&G McAtamney Butchery & Deli has been trading since 2000 with a strong family heritage in the industry dating back to 1953. This latest accolade is great news for founders, father and son team, Kieran and Gordon McAtamney, who took the skills and knowledge passed on to them from Kieran’s butcher grandfather and created a shop focused on quality, innovation, experience and service to offer lovingly crafted and exceptionally presented products for their customers.

Gordon McAtamney commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to win such a prestigious national award. The Ballymena-based outlet has over 60 employees which not only serves the needs of the local area but also supplies wholesale meats to the catering and retail trade as well as sourcing, preparing, packaging and distributing foods to over 120 hotels, restaurants and butcher shops province-wide. It also has counters in Robinsons CostsCutter, Ballymena and McKillops Euro Spar, Cushendall and supplies 300 Spar stores across Northern Ireland.
