“It came up on facebook and I thought I’d apply just for a laugh,” she told The Times.

She was, however, subsequently contacted for an audition which took place in Belfast in August and a week later she received an email stating that she had been shortlisted.

“I was told the producers were really interested in having me on the show but thousands apply so you don’t know whether you will be on standby or get straight on,” said Kirstie.

The Ballymena hopeful was, however, one of the girls selected for the very first show which aired on Saturday, January 3.

Kirstie revealed she’s loving every minute of it.

“It really is the best experience of my life,” she said.

“Paddy is just as he seems - very funny and a gentleman and all the girls are lovely, we all get on so well. Everyone is so supportive of each other,” said Kirstie who said she was also touched and delighted by the support she’s had from viewers, friends and family.

She confirmed her mum Andrea, dad Lawrence, brother Alan and sister Jessica have been glued to the show and will be watching again this weekend.

If you want to see how Kirstie gets on you can tune in to the third show in the series which will be screened on ITV this Saturday night.
