Lions seeking your support

Ballymena Lions Club are seeking volunteers who can spare a few hours of their time to help in the community.

The Club would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in lending their support to the popular Talking Newspaper initiative or to help out with the annual Shanes Castle Vintage Steam Rally.

Anyone who wishes to be a volunteer does not have to be a member of the Club.

The Lions Club Talking Newspaper has proved over the years to be a vital service for the visually impaired.

In 1977 the club started producing the local edition in which news from local papers including the Ballymena Times is read out every Tuesday morning and recorded on CD and posted out via the Library Service to visually impaired listeners.

Each volunteer is placed on a rota and is called upon to help once a month, or so or more frequently if they wish.

Members and volunteers also help out with the rides and collection of entrance fees for the two days in May at Shanes Castle Vintage Steam Rally on May 1 and 2. Could you help us there as well.

Anyone who is keen to help out at either, or both, events should contact Herbie Park on 0282565 9653
