Local woman abseils for charity

MOLLY King from Broughshane displayed a head for heights having completed the Friends of the Cancer Centre’s recent 150ft sponsored abseil off the Europa Hotel, Belfast.

Her invaluable support will benefit thousands of cancer patients and their families who annually avail of the services of the Cancer Centre, our regional centre for excellence in cancer care, based at the Belfast City Hospital.

Delighted that all the charity’s spots were snapped up by the many friends of the charity from across Northern Ireland, Kelly Graham, Events and Community Fundraiser for Friends of the Cancer, said: “Each of our brave participants proved they have a head for heights, and were literally prepared to ‘jump’ into spring in the name of the charity. Anyone who would also like to take the same plunge in the name of charity should sign up for our next Autumn abseil on Sunday, September 23 by giving ‘Friends’ a call.

“Similarly, if you missed out on this activity but would like to get active for Friends there are a number of other events you can sign up for this summer.

“The Belvoir Forest & Lagan Valley Walk takes place on Saturday, June 2. It’s free to register and a light lunch is provided. A Dragon Boat Race is a new addition this year, taking place on Saturday, August 25 on the Lagan from the Belfast Boat Club. It is £10 per person to register, which includes BBQ. There are 17 spots per team but smaller groups/individuals can be accommodated. Or why not join them us for the annual Slieve Donard Challenge on Saturday, September 8, at only £10 to register.”

“Or if you want to host your own fundraiser, the ‘Friends’ team is only a phonce call away to help support your activities by providing sponsorship forms, branded items when applicable, and lots of fundraising advice.”
