An early morning worker was astonished to come across a motorist beating his car with a tree branch in the style of Basil in the epic ‘Fawlty Towers’ episode.
The incident occurred on the Dans Road, Ballymena around 5.30am last Sunday morning, it has emerged.
A witness told the Times: “I was driving along on my way to work when I saw a car was stopped at the side of the road. Then I saw this character waving something round his head and shouting.
“I slowed down because I had no idea what was going on. When I got a little closer I could plainly see him battering the car with a tree branch. It was like Basil Fawlty giving his car a ‘darn good thrashing’ on TV.”
But the witness decided to be cautious and turned his car to drive into town another way.
“This guy must have been out of his mind on something,” he said. “I didn’t want him battering my car so I turned and went another way. Some of the sights you come across in the early morning around Ballymena would turn your head.”
