Man broke kitchen window after party incident

A BALLYMENA man who broke a window of a house after being "rebuffed" in his attempts to get into a party there has been given an 18-month conditional discharge.

Jason Lee Martin (21), of Staffa Drive, was also ordered to pay compensation of 20 after admitting charges of criminal damage and disorderly behaviour at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

The court was told that police who responded to an early morning incident at Larne Street on December 26, were informed by onlookers that the defendant had been observed throwing an ashtray through the kitchen door window of a house.

Martin appeared to be aggressive and was being held back by a friend, while shouting abuse at police.

He was warned about his behaviour and then arrested. He later told police he had no recollection of the incident other than waking up in a police cell.

Barrister Stephen Law said Martin had been “totally intoxicated” at the time of the offence.

He said the defendant had gone to a house party and when he didn’t get in, “decided to attempt a re-entry, which was rebuffed”.

District Judge Des Perry told Martin: “I hope you have learned something from this, namely that under the influence of drink, you act in a way that is completely unacceptable.”
