Man dies after work accident

The accident happened at Emerald Isle Recycle in Randalstown on Friday afternoon.

Thirty-five-year-old Richard Livingston, from the Groggan Road, died as a result of the accident.

The company, which specialises in recycling plastic, is understood to be owned by one of Mr Livingston’s brothers.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said inspectors had been informed and were investigating the incident.

Tributes have been paid to the father-of-one who has been described as a “hard working and dedicated family man”.

Mr Livingston, who owned Livingston Chauffeur Hire, is survived by his wife Pauline and young son Harry.

The Deputy Mayor of Ballymena, Alderman William McNeilly , said the local community had been left stunned and shocked by Mr Livingston’s death.

“This is such a tragedy,” Ald. McNeilly said.

He added: “He was a hard working and well respected member of the community.

“People are just stunned by his death.

“He would have helped his brother out from time to time at the recycling business. He was just a hardworking a dedicated family man.”

Alderman McNeilly said his sympathies were with Mr Livingston’s wife and son at this time, and expressed condolences to Mr Livingston’s father, brothers and sister, and the wider family circle.
