Man sent for trial on child sex charges

A MAN has been sent for Crown Court trial on sex charges involving a female child, dating back almost seven years.

Stephen Rainbird (58), with an address at Goal Road, Stafford, is accused of indecently assaulting the child; committing an act of gross indecency; and inciting the child to commit an act of gross indecency.

The offences are alleged to have taken place in the County Court Division of Antrim on dates between October 1 and November 30, 2003.

Rainbird was returned for trial, in custody, to Antrim Crown on September 30, following a preliminary enquiry at Ballymena Magistrates Court.

Solicitor Stewart Ballentine said Rainbird would be contesting the charges
