McIlveen condemns Galgorm vandalism

DUP MLA David McIlveen has described damage caused to a community centre in Galgorm last week as “an act of senseless vandalism”.

Police in Ballymena are appealing for information about an incident at the Raphael Way premises which took place in the early hours of last Thursday, July 26.

A police spokesman said two windows at the rear of a community centre were smashed and that a number of youths are believed to have been in the area at the time of the incident.

Enquiries are continuing and Mr McIlveen, who is a member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board, is appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

He said: “I was appalled to hear of this act of vandalism in Galgorm. Our community centres are cherished places within the community, used for a huge range of activities catering for every sector of the community. To discover that some mindless vandals have been spending their evenings breaking windows at Galgorm Community Centre is very disheartening.

“I would appeal for anyone who has any information as to the identity of this perpetrators to come forward to the police. It is vital that we work together to make our communities safe and enjoyable places to live. I personally have no time for an act of senseless vandalism such as this and will be working with the police to bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
