Monitoring of parades is reduced

POLICE have revealed that there has been a 60% cut in the number of policing monitoring parades in the Borough.

At last Thursday night's DPP meeting held in Kells Community centre, Chief Superintendent Nigel Goddard informed members that they have reduced the amount of officers monitoring parades.

District Commander for H District said that in a number of cases the monitoring of parades was left to experienced members to marshal the parade rather than police officers.

He said: "It's gone quite well. The fact is, traffic chaos caused by the parades is something we can accept but people getting injured is something we can't accept."
