More realm works for Randalstown

The green light has been given for a third phase of '˜public realm' works in Randalstown by Communities Minister, Paul Givan.

Funding of £380,000 has been allocated for the works, which will take place in New Street and the surrounding linkage areas of John Street and Arches Lane.

This will include new granite pavements and kerbs, installation of new street furniture and upgrade of street lighting.

Minister Givan said: “I welcome this third phase of public realm works in Randalstown which will complement the other regeneration improvements my Department has already funded in the town and will complete the upgrading of the entire town centre.”

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, Councillor John Scott commented: “The first two phases of the scheme have been a welcome enhancement to the town, with the new state of the art street lighting, public seating, pavements and landscaping improving the overall look and feel of the area. Our town centres are a priority for Council and this additional investment to complete the town and connecting streets will be a key driver in improving the economic life of the town.”

Works will commence later this year and are due to be completed by March 2017.
