Motorist drove at 'ridiculous speed' - judge

A foreign national caught driving at 113mph on the M2b has been fined £350 and had four points endorsed on his licence at Ballymena Magistrate's Court sitting in Antrim.

Jacek Tomasz Gajdzinski (31) of Islay Street, Antrim, was detected by police on February 22, 2010.

Last Thursday’s court sitting heard that when stopped he told officers he needed to get to work for a night shift.

A solicitor for Gajdzinski said his client had been anxious to get to work and that had been driving not on a road but on a motorway.

He said his client had been speeding up to overtake another vehicle when he came to the attention of police.

The solicitor, who handed in a reference for Gajdzinski to the court from his employer, added that his client had been a professional driver before he came to Northern Ireland.

District Judge, Desmond Perry told Gajdzinski: “This was a ridiculous speed to drive at”.
