No insurance driver had false plates

A CULLYBACKEY man caught driving with no insurance also had false number plates on the vehicle, Ballymena Magistrates Court was told.

WIlliam Ian Coleman (36), of Spence Crescent, was fined a total of 200 and had her licence endorsed with six penalty points after admitting the offences.

The court was told the offences came to light when Coleman was stopped by police at Kilmakevit Road on February 4.

Solicitor David McIlrath said Coleman had bought the car the previous evening from a website and that the registration plates had been on it.

With regard to the insurance offence, Coleman had gone to his broker who had said he was unable to insure the vehicle because it was a Japanese import.

The car has “long since gone”, the solicitor added.
