Nominations sought for community awards

Nominations are being sought for the 2016 Ballymena Community Cluster awards which celebrate those who make an extra special contribution to the local community.

The four Ballymena clusters, which make up the organisation, will come together on November 9 for the award ceremony and celebrate those who work hard to make the places we live better for all.

There are a number of categories for the awards and nominations can be made by anyone and will be considered by a judging panel prior to the event.

Nomination forms must be with Ballymena South Cluster by Thursday, September 15 at 5pm.

Unfortunately prrevious winners cannot be considered for this year’s awards.

The categories for each award are as follows:

1. North Community Cluster Group of the Year - A group from the North Cluster who have gone the extra mile for their community in 2015/2016 (previous winners Rectory Residents’ Association).

2. South Community Cluster Group of the Year - A group from the South Cluster who have gone the extra mile for their community in 2015/2016 (previous winners Ballee & Harryville Community Enterprises).

3. East Rural Community Cluster Group of the Year - A group from the East Rural Cluster who have gone the extra mile for their community in 2015/ 2016 (previous winners Clough & District Community Association).

4. Bann Maine West Community Cluster Group of the Year - A group from the Bann Maine West Cluster who have gone the extra mile for their community in 2015/2016 (previous winners Hillstown Rural Community Group).

5. Man of the Year - A man in the area who has volunteered and made an extra special difference in his community (previous winner Denver McMeekin).

6. Woman of the Year - A lady who has given that special womanly touch and really helped her community in 2015/2016 (previous winner Karen Shannon)

7. Older Person Champion (Group) - A group who has been dedicated to helping the older members of their community in any way (previous winners Good Morning Ballymena).

8. Youth Champion (Group) - Youth will be a big part of this groups’ agenda. In 2015/16 they have continuously considered youth in their work and provided services that they would otherwise not have had (previous winners Dunclug Youth Forum).

9. Green Award (Group) - This award is for a group who has made a big difference in environment in their community (previous winner Cullybackey Development Association).

10. Fundraising Achievement - A group that have excelled in their ability to raise funds in 2015/16.

11. Most Innovative Group - A group who has came up with a brilliant new idea or is doing something really unique.

12. Health Contribution - A group who has worked hard to raise awareness about health or helped people to improve their health.

13. Business Contribution to the Community - A business that has made a difference in their community.

14. Lifetime Achievement - The lifetime achievement will be an extraordinary award for an extraordinary person who has dedicated their life to serving in the community (previous winner Kieran Adams).
