NRC Students learn how to boost employability skills

STUDENTS from across NRC have been given an excellent opportunity to learn how best to improve their employability, in today’s competitive market, by some of Northern Ireland’s leading companies.

The college, which hosted a Careers Fair at the Ballymena Campus, organised the event across all NRC Campuses to coincide with ‘Student Volunteering Week’, February 20-26.

Stephen McCartney, NRC’s Student Support Manager said: “We wanted to give our students the best platform to ensure they have the opportunities to evaluate their career choices and learn how they can boost their employability skills.

“The employers participating in the event are providing in-depth knowledge into the variety of career options available and the necessary steps and skills required to achieve their goals.”

He added that ‘Volunteer Now’ is one of the leading organisations for volunteering in Northern Ireland which connects young people with voluntary groups and organisations.

“We are encouraging our students this week, to become involved in volunteering outside the classroom, which will help them to develop transferrable skills and experience required by employers,” he said.

“Student Volunteering Week is highlighting the employability factor volunteering can offer and how well it compliments education. Students can join the Millennium Volunteers programme for example, whereby their commitment, skills and experienced will be recognised by the Department of Education upon completion of 50, 100 and 200 hours of volunteering with a recognised national award of excellence.
