Obituary: Mr. Ian Henderson

THE popularity of Ian ‘Dosh’ Henderson in the Ballymena area and further afield was illustrated by the large number of mourners who attended his funeral on Thursday at Ballee Presbyterian Church.

Ian, (56) who was born in Scotland, lived in Londonderry until the age of 11 when he moved to Ballymena.

He was a former pupil of Ballymena Academy, representing the school at cricket and rugby.

Until 2009, he was product placement manager at AVX.

All who knew him describe the Grange Road man as having a tremendous zest for life. An accomplished musician, he had played bass guitar in a number of rock bands down through the years and his many performances with his cousin and close friend Bill Wray were recalled by many of those at the funeral.

However, his musical ability was not confined to the local entertainment scene as he had been a member of McNeillstown Pipe Band, playing pipes with them at the World Championships in 1979 and subsequently touring Canada with the band. He had also played with Graham Memorial Pipe Band when they won the Grade 2 World Championships in 1985.

Ian’s devotion to his beloved Manchester United was also recalled with great fondness by all in attendance at the funeral. Burial was carried out at Ballee Cemetery.

Ian was the beloved husband of Anne and the loving father of Adrian. He was the son of Ann and the late Turner Henderson.
